Sew & Sews

The “Sew & Sews” of Royal Oak Church of Christ started about 10 years ago with several goals in mind:

  • For the Christian fellowship – to bring us together to do good works

  • To help the Church of Christ Adult Care Center

  • To help the local community and other outreach organizations

  • To help Shults Lewis Children’s Home and other Church of Christ Children’s Homes

  • Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

  • Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,”

  • Galatians 6:10 “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

  • To teach crocheting, knitting, and sewing to others 10 years old and older so they can learn a skill that will carry them through so they can also do good works throughout their lives.

Our Projects in the past and present:

  • Church of Christ Care Center – garment covers are made to help the residents keep their clothing clean while eating meals.

  • Local Pregnancy Centers: They are Christian based that help women make the right decision while they are going through tough times. These pregnancy centers offer pregnancy tests, ultrasounds (so they get to see they are carrying a real baby). They offer MOMS programs which help build their character and self-esteem, teach them how to better care for the baby, offer baby items to give them a good start once the baby is born and up to age 3 (usually), and the comradery of their peers.

    • Baby Items we make: Crocheted baby blankets, burp cloths, receiving blankets, baby sweaters and hats, etc.

    • Baby Items we provide: Layette gift bags: Book – Gospel of John, baby toiletries, sleepers, gowns, onesies, bibs, baby wash cloths, and each of the handmade items (above), etc.

  • For our Expecting Mothers at Royal Oak – give them many baby items for their baby.

  • Shults-Lewis Children’s Home

  • Wilson Cancer Center – Hats and scarves and small underarm pillows for breast cancer patients, and crocheted afghans.

  • Children’s board covers – boards are used during IV treatments. The covers are made with children’s printed material.

  • Previously made items for the Panama mission.
