What to Expect

  • The Royal Oak family is a community of imperfect servants, growing spiritually, seeking a relationship with Jesus. We welcome you and your family.

  • The words and music will be projected on our screen. We sing to praise God and encourage one another though the words and music (Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 2:12). We sing acappella using the voices God has given us (Ephesians 5:19) and we sing a variety of songs from old favorite hymns to some of the newer praise and worship songs. We do not have a special choir or soloists. Every person in the church is the choir every time we sing; so please feel free to sing along with us.

  • We believe in the power of prayer and we pray several times during our worship service, often praying for specific desires or needs. Prayer is a unique opportunity to speak to our heavenly Father, we believe that prayer is extremely important to keep ourselves focused and aligned with God and His will. (Philippians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:8; James 5:13-18; Colossians 4:2)

  • Our God inspired His scriptures for a reason: so that we might learn from them. Every Sunday a Biblically-grounded sermon will be given, and each lesson will be founded in Scripture while its preparation will have been saturated with prayer. Most Sundays, Peter Morphy will be preaching. We do not refer to him as ‘Father,’ or as ‘Pastor,’ but simply as Peter. No one involved in the service will be wearing any special clothes, or will be set apart from anyone else at all. We are all God’s sons and daughters, regardless of position in any earthly place, including a Church. We have no hierarchy of faith. We believe that we are all a priesthood of believers (Matthew 23:8-12; Galatians 3:26-28; 1 Peter 2:5,9).

  • It is God’s desire that we never forget the sacrifice Jesus made for us and by which we are saved. Based on the teachings of the New Testament and the example of Jesus Christ, we partake in communion every Sunday in remembrance of that sacrifice.

The Bread - A short devotional will be offered by a member of our congregation, reminding us of the importance of Christ’s sacrifice, followed by a prayer and the eating of the unleavened bread, symbolizing the body of Christ, offered on the cross for our sins. As each participating individual eats the bread, they do so in obedience to Jesus’ words, “Take, eat; this is my body” (Matthew 26:26).

The Cup - After a few more comments, a prayer will be offered for the cup, which symbolizes the blood of Christ. Each participating individual will take their cup and drink it, remembering Jesus’ words, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:27-28).

Examining Ourselves - We encourage baptized believers to partake in communion every Sunday. Joining with us around the Lord’s table should be a confession of one’s faith, and each person should examine themselves before partaking, “For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.” (1 Corinthians 11:29-30, ESV). If one is not in the right state of mind, they should feel free not to participate.

  • We do not ask guests to give any money at all. But there will be a time in our service when our members will be encouraged to give. A prayer will be offered for the ministries we are supporting. We know that nothing is achieved without the grace of God, and that our resources have come from Him. Knowing this, it is our desire to glorify Him with our gifts, as seen in the model of 1 Corinthians 16. Again, there is no pressure for our guests to participate.

  • At the end of the worship service, the speaker of the will extend an invitation to the congregation. This gives those with a special need opportunity to come forward and make their need known. Our elders and minister will meet those who come forward to address the need and pray for the individual if necessary.

This time is more than just a time for baptisms. Our elders and minister will be present in the front of the auditorium after the sermon for any need you might have. They will be available to hear concerns that have been laid upon your heart, to pray with you if you are struggling, and to rejoice with you if you are rejoicing.

If somone does come forward to to be baptized, we usually sing a few songs while the individual changes into baptismal garments. We baptize by immersion (Acts 8:35-39; Romans 6:3,4; Colossians 2:12), for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38) and entrance into Christ's body/church (Gal. 3:27).

  • Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

We have an area dedicated to children and young families where children 4 to 10 years old may participate in youth worship. Youth worship is led by men of the church in a way that honors God using age appropriate songs, puppets, and readings from the Bible translated for a child’s understanding. Youth worship is held each Sunday morning at 11:00 am with the exception of the first Sunday of each month when everyone meets together in the auditorium for worship. Parents and families of the children are always welcome in youth worship.

  • Another obvious characteristic in our worship service is that we are led by spiritual men. Throughout the Old Testament God appointed men to take the spiritual leadership, consistent from the beginning (Adam) through the end (the prophets). There were a few occasions where women were national or political leaders, but never serving in the temple or tabernacle as priests. Male spiritual leadership is also consistent throughout the New Testament as Jesus appointed men as apostles (Mark 3:16-19), the church selected men to serve (Acts 6:1-7), to serve as deacons (1 Timothy 3:8-13), and lead the church as elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9). In addition, men were also to lead in the corporate worship (1 Corinthians 11:3-16; 1 Corinthians 14:33-35; 1 Timothy 2:8-15).

  • The adult worship and one of our adult Bible classes are signed in for the hearing impaired.

  • A nursery is available for infants through two years old. The nursery is located at the rear of the auditorium and mothers are welcome to stay, no men please due to the presence of nursing mothers.
